Sensitization and Activation in Chemical Plating

Author:Robby

Chemical plating is a surface treatment method that utilizes an electrolyte to apply electrostatic deposits to a metal surface. Among them, sensitization and activation are essential steps before treatment. So, what are the roles of sensitization and activation?

First, the role of sensitization
Sensitization is the generation of a layer of microscopic crystals on the metal surface, to improve the electrochemical activity of the surface and the conductivity of the surface. Sensitization further enhances the ability of the plating solution and the plating solution to adhere to the surface of the workpiece, and improves the uniformity of the metal surface. Sensitization can make the metal surface more receptive to electroplating coatings, but also improve the durability of the coating, adhesion and oxidation protection.

Second, the role of activation
Activation in the plating solution mainly plays a role in eliminating the metal surface film layer, remove impurities and promote the affinity of the metal surface and electrolyte. The activator in the plating solution makes the metal surface form active groups, so that it can better adsorb the electrolyte and plating solution.

Sensitization and activation are essential steps in chemical plating. Sensitization and activation can form a physically or chemically modified treatment layer on the metal surface, improving the uniformity, adhesion and corrosion resistance of the plated layer. Therefore, sensitization and activation are widely used in chemical plating, especially in electronic metallurgy, automobile manufacturing, machinery manufacturing and other industries.

In conclusion, sensitization and activation in chemical plating are very important steps to improve the electrochemical activity of the metal surface and the electrical conductivity of the surface, as well as to improve the uniformity and durability of the coating.
