How Do HVLS Fans Work to Circulate Air?

HVLS fans operate by drawing air from above and pushing it down to the floor level. Once the air is directed downward, it spreads out horizontally upon reaching the ground, creating a large area of continuous airflow that helps maintain a comfortable environment.

How Can I Determine the Appropriate Fan Size for My Space?

To select the right size fan, it should ideally match the height of your facility. For instance, a facility with a 24-foot ceiling would benefit from a 24-foot diameter fan. Larger fans are more effective in distributing air over obstacles and along aisles, while smaller fans work best in confined spaces.

What Is the Recommended Mounting Height for HVLS Fans?

Each fan requires a minimum clearance to function optimally, as they pull air from above. The clearance needed depends on the fan's diameter and your ceiling structure. We offer site surveys to help you establish the appropriate mounting height for your fans.

How Should HVLS Fans Be Integrated with a Sprinkler System?

As per the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Standard 13, when installing HVLS fans in buildings equipped with sprinklers, the following guidelines must be followed:
1. The fan diameter must not exceed 24 feet (7.3 meters).
2. Fans should be centered between four adjacent sprinklers.
3. Maintain a minimum vertical clearance of 3 feet (0.9 meters) from the fan to the sprinkler deflector.
4. HVLS fans should be connected to shut down immediately upon receiving a water flow signal from the fire alarm system, as outlined in NFPA 72.
All our large diameter HVLS fans are designed to comply with these requirements.
